What is the difference between a removal and a clearance company?

You will find many different removal and clearance services when searching for help with moving. Although they may appear to do the same thing, a clearing company is quite different than a removal company.
The simplest form of a removal company is to take everything that you need to move from your current location to a new place. They only transport it.

A clearance company, on the contrary, helps you to get rid of the stuff you won’t use again. A clearance company usually requires more work.

Clearing an office or home requires that you distinguish between the following areas for a clearance company:

What is being moved/retained?

What can you recycle?

What can you resell/reuse? Which value can you deduct from your final bill?

Removal companies will only cover your basic move

No matter if you hire a company to clear out your home or move you will decide what to keep and what to take to your new place.

As with a removals firm, they can pack and box your belongings, as well as unpack them if necessary. You can expect them to bring your own boxes, tape, and any other equipment they need to safely transport your furniture or possessions from A to B.

Clearance businesses will recycle your items

Recent initiatives to encourage recycling have allowed clearance companies to sort trash from recycling for customers.

If you use a moving company, you may still have old computers, lamps and carpeting that you need to take to the dump.

The clearance team will sort out items that are damaged or broken, so they can’t be reused. We then transport it to licensed recycling facilities.

This allows us better to calculate environmental reports, which are more readily available with larger projects, and makes sure we have the least impact possible on the environment.

Not all things we carefully seperate and store can be turned into something else. You will have to take damaged items, particularly those made of mixed materials, to mixed recycling centres.

Clearance companies are not about removals. We ensure that there is as little waste as possible.

We try to reuse and resell as often as possible

Our business model as a clearance company is built on the ability of reselling items. Our customers save money by reselling assets.

We’ve been able over the years to build a list of contacts who are willing and able to purchase and use a large variety of items. We can resell a lot of what we clear. These items are reused, rather than being thrown away.

It is also more sustainable than recycling because it requires that each product be broken down into its constituent parts – steel, plastic, etc. – which can all require some energy to remanufacture.

We often find large quantities of desks, tables, and chairs that are no longer needed when we move offices. These items can be sold off for a small fee in developing countries to make them useful equipment that wouldn’t otherwise be wasted.

In our effort to maximize reuse, we regularly donate household and commercial furniture, stationery and clothing to various charitable causes. It is not the responsibility of removal companies to do this.

Hire a mover, not a company to clear your stuff. If you have some items to throw away, make sure to donate them to charities.
