What Information Is On An Enhanced DBS Check?


Many people are familiarized with the term “DBS Check”. Employers can check the criminal history of potential employees to verify their credibility.

If you are applying for jobs that require an enhanced DBS, it is natural to wonder what might be revealed. Let’s see what could or might appear in a report.
What Does an Enhanced DBS Check Look Like?

An enhanced disclosure check gives full details about the criminal record of an applicant, such as warnings, cautions and unspent convictions. This check will also search the DBS Children’s Barred List, or the DBS Adult First Checks where applicable to verify that the applicant is not barred from working with either of these groups.

The local police can also add any relevant information about an individual to their application.

Additionally, the police have the right of including any additional information in their file that they consider relevant to the check.
What Will An Enhanced Disclosure Look Like?

One question we get often is whether any cautions have not been surfaced in an enhanced Disclosure check. All Disclosure and Barring Service checks will show any unspent cautions or convictions.

All convictions and cautions from previous years were shown on your enhanced DBS before 2013. Today, certain types cautions or convictions will not appear on your enhanced DBS check. Some offences, however, will continue to appear. Other cautions may not be listed on your DBS certificate. It is dependent on many factors.
